Why Work At Home When You Can Work Overseas
So you want to experience life in Thailand? Normally when individuals consider living in Thailand, they instantly think they need to take up an English teaching job to pay their way. While there are lucrative English teaching positions in universities like Chulalongkorn or Thammasat, most English teaching jobs offer little pay.
In fact, don’t anticipate a leading salary for any job requiring skills, teaching or otherwise. It does sound all bad, but actually if you mean to live in the Land of Smiles for a few years, such poorly paid jobs aren’t too much of a problem since the cost of living is very low in Thailand, the infrastructure is the best in South East Asia, it’s a safe country, and you can still climb up the career ladder because you can get a great work experience in Thailand.
However there is an obscured dilemma that slowly presents itself after some time: so you’ve been working in the Land of Smiles for a couple of years, you’ve gained good work experience, your wage is low, but then again the cost of living is low so no problem. HOWEVER, here’s the rub : You haven’t had the opportunity to actually BANK money while staying in Thailand. Airfares look incredibly expensive in comparison to your pay in Thailand. The price of things in your home country gets to worry you when thinking about your Thai wage slip. This dilemma hits a lot of non-Thai nationals in Thailand a few years after deciding to work there. Long- term future plans can often be delayed because you haven’t the savings to put into action any plan like buying a property, purchasing a car, or tieing the knot..
So, important point : when considering working in the Land of Smiles, also consider that it is incredibly difficult to bank substantial quantities of hard cash when considering the prices of “back home”.
Yet, it’s not all about money is it? You can have a great time in Thailand, perhaps learn the Thai language, make friends, go travelling around the country in your freetime, and acquire some precious overseas work experience.
So what kind of job positions can you obtain in Thailand? Looking at jobs-quality.com – a website listing jobs around the Bangkok and Chonburi areas of Thailand – they have listed Human Resource work placements, Administration work placements, sales executive job positions, Quality Assurance and Control jobs in Thailand etc. Essentially the sort of job positions you’d find in your home country. Even though the majority of these posts may be seeking a Thai national who speaks Thai, there are still English-speaking prerequisites for posts within many international organizations established in Thailand.
